Manchester County Cup - Quarter Final 14/2/10
AVRO 2 - 0 BOOTHSTOWN JUNIORS
AVRO JFC WEBSITE MATCH REPORT:
AVRO - County Cup 1/4 finals for the fourth year running and a great team effort saw us through to the semi finals against a good and well organised team from Boothstown. It was very even first 20 mins with both teams trying to gain an advantage , the first goal was always going to be important and a great finish by NB saw avros take the lead.Boothstown looked strong going forward but the defence held tight up to half time ht 1-0.
The second half was much like the first very tight and competative with both teams showing great determination to win ,the referee was the best we have had and kept the game under control well , Avro had more of the play but couldnt get the second goal and Boothstown kept putting the defence under pressure , with 5 mins to go they got their only real chance to score but missed the target , in the last minute we eventually got the second goal we deserved maybe, scored by JJ with a fine strike
ft 2-0 .
A brilliant team performance against a good side played in the right way by both teams WELL DONE LADS !

This Weeks Focus - Creating Passing Options

Drill Tips
Defenders - One defender plays left side and the other on the right. The defender nearest a wide player with the ball must get close and try to prevent the WP making a pass. The other defender must closely mark the attacker (within 2-3ft to allow for a quick turn), he should be goal side, on his toes, alert and ready for the attacker to change direction and make a run/ sprint. It's important that if the ball from the WP has gone past the first defender that he gets back quickly and helps his defending partner. When in possession the defenders should look to play the ball accurately to the WP's feet.
Attacker - Lots of movement and directional changes when the WP has the ball. Try to be unpredictable to your marker, look to find space by changing direction and sprinting ,then give a signal or shout when you want the ball. If you get the ball but can't find a shooting angle pass it back to the WP or switch the ball to the other WP on the opposite side. When the defenders have the ball you must work hard to close down the ball to prevent a pass from a defender to a WP.
WP Wide Players - Move along the line to an area that makes the pass to you easier. A good first touch is important, Keep you head up and wait for the attacker to signal or shout for the pass. The pass must be accurate. If an attacker can't find space consider switching the play by passing to the WP on the opposite side of the playing area. Try to get to the byline quickly and pass the ball back from the byline rather than towards it because this is always much harder to defend. (Ball travelling in the opposite direction to the what the defenders are running in.)
